The Great Plains IDeA Clinical Translation Research (CTR) Network is open for membership to researchers, non-researchers and UNMC community members.

An objective of the Great Plains IDeA-CTR is to leverage existing strengths in regional education, training, and mentor programs and to build a comprehensive and integrated portfolio aimed at developing successful clinical translational research investigators.

“The Great Plains is a vast, rural region with pockets of urban development,” said Matt Rizzo, M.D., chair of neurological sciences and IDeA-CTR program director. “Geographic and social isolation — combined with lack of access to primary and specialized care in both rural and underserved urban areas — characterize some of our most vulnerable populations.

“The Great Plains IDeA CTR Network is a collaborative effort between nine institutions in Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota and Kansas to reach these medically underserved populations and transform health delivery and outcomes in the Great Plains region.

“With generous funding from the National Institutes of Health and a belief that ‘together we are better,’ the Great Plains IDeA-CTR Network seeks to advance the NIH mission to improve the health of Americans across the lifespan through innovative research, high quality patient care, outreach to underserved populations, and premier educational programs in the areas of mind, brain, and body health,” Dr. Rizzo said.

Scholars and other early career faculty can take advantage of the many training and education opportunities offered by the Great Plains IDeA-CTR. Experienced researchers also can benefit from these continuing education activities as techniques and approaches evolve. To encourage participation, seminars and workshops are offered via live webcasts when possible and recorded and posted on this site for easy access.

Membership benefits include:

  • Learning how to access clinical research resources (clinical research design, epidemiology and biostatistics consulting, community engagement consulting, etc.) across all Great Plains IDeA-CTR partner sites.
  • Receiving information on funding opportunities.
  • Applying for funding.
  • Belonging to a network of colleagues and collaborators with shared research interests.
  • Gaining access to educational and training opportunities.
