25th annual State Science Meet draws 55 students from across Nebraska

Fifty-five eighth-grade students from 25 schools across Nebraska attended the 25th annual State Science Meet June 8-10 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

The goal of the meet is to inspire students, especially those from rural communities, to pursue careers in health care by providing a fun and educational experience.

The students qualify for the meet by submitting science projects in one of seven regional science meets sponsored by the Nebraska Area Health Education Centers and the Coalition for Life Saving Cures held earlier in the year.

While on campus students were exposed to the health professions, medical research and patient care. Events included hands-on science activities such as:

  • Presentations about a variety of health science disciplines
  • Tours of UNMC
  • A team science competition

The students were also treated to a robotics workshop and CAPOW! science show at the Peter Kiewit Institute on the University of Nebraska at Omaha Scott Campus.
