“I’m deeply honored to be asked to be the grand marshal for this year’s Pride Parade,” said Dr. Amoura. “We have worked to make UNMC a place where transgender patients seek out affirming care. And we continue to strive to make UNMC and Nebraska Medicine safe and welcoming environments for people of the LGBT community to work, study, and get their health care. It’s a proud moment for all of us.”

Emily Glenn, co-chair of the LGBTQ+ Employee Alliance, called Dr. Amoura’s selection a huge honor.

“We are so happy to celebrate her work and community support,” she said.

Members of the UNMC and Nebraska Medicine community are invited to come out and march with the group during the event. The group will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of 9th Avenue and South Main Street in Council Bluffs. Look for the UNMC/Nebraska Medicine banner. Marchers are asked bring a bag of candy to pass out to those in attendance along the parade route. Event details here.

“Friends, co-workers, family, and children are very welcome to join us,” said Rachel Huggins, secretary of the LGBTQ+ Employee Alliance. “We will be wearing red UNMC or Nebraska Medicine shirts (or other red shirts) and will be fourth in the parade lineup. Please RSVP to Emily Glenn if you would like to walk with us to show Omaha and Council Bluffs that UNMC and Nebraska Medicine are committed to diversity and inclusivity, and that we are proud of it!”

Dr. Amoura is a difference-maker! Because of her work–and so many others–we can demonstrate that being world-class means that EVERYONE is welcome in our clinics, in our classrooms, in our research labs. Diversity is an essential component of leading organizations, and I am very proud that UNMC and Nebraska Med are committed to this impact factor. Dr. Amoura – Thank you for representing us well!
