State Sen. Lindstrom visits UNMC

State Sen. Brett Lindstrom, who represents District 18 in northwest Omaha, toured UNMC in September, meeting with university leaders, including Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., Vice Chancellor for External Relations Bob Bartee, and Associate Vice Chancellor for Basic Science Research Ken Bayles, M.D.

He also toured the iEXCEL Visualization Hub, his first exposure to virtual medical education.

Sen. Lindstrom, who has visited the campus in the past,
said he was impressed by how technology is changing education.

“It looks like we’re spending the money in the right fashion,” he said. “Technology is advancing a lot quicker than even I realized. It seems like exponential growth.”

Sen. Lindstrom was impressed by the growth of the campus, which he noted had changed significantly since he first visited as a senator about three years ago. He also said he was proud to see UNMC and Nebraska “leading in a lot of ways in the medical field.”

As for the visualization hub demonstration, Sen. Lindstrom said he’d never seen anything quite like the iWall and the 3-D learning technology.

“The applications are pretty endless,” he said.
