The UNMC Division of Cardiovascular Medicine recently celebrated the naming of three new endowed chairs:

  • Greg Pavlides, M.D., Ph.D., is the Vincent Miscia Chair of Interventional Cardiology, established by Dr. and Mrs. Vincent Miscia. Dr. Miscia served on the faculty in the division of cardiology, and was later a clinical associate professor of internal medicine from 1975-99. He currently volunteers in the division of cardiology. The Miscias are University of Nebraska Foundation trustees.
  • John Windle, M.D., is the Richard and Mary Holland Distinguished Chair in Cardiovascular Sciences, established by Dick Holland and the Holland Foundation. Holland, who died in 2016, was a leading Omaha philanthropist and one of UNMC’s biggest supporters. Dr. Windle was Dick Holland’s cardiologist.
  • Samer Sayyed, M.D., is the Ward A. Chambers, M.D., Professor in Cardiology, established by Suzanne and Ward Chambers, M.D., Richard Holland and the Holland Foundation, Alan and Carol Parsow and Mike and Dr. Gail Yanney. An alumnus of the UNMC College of Medicine, Dr. Chambers has been on the UNMC faculty since 1989 and served in a wide variety of high-level administrative posts, including director of medical affairs and president of the practice groups. Alan Parsow has been general partner of Elkhorn Partners Limited Partnership since 1989, and Carol is a graduate of the now College of Allied Health Professions. Together they have supported several areas at UNMC. The Yanneys, individually and as a team, are two of UNMC’s biggest boosters, spearheading private-sector partnership for numerous projects, most recently and most notably the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., UNMC’s chancellor; Daniel DeBehnke, M.D., M.B.A., CEO of Nebraska Medicine; Debra Romberger, M.D., chair of internal medicine; and Vincent Pompili, M.D., chief of cardiovascular medicine, honored the chairs and donors at a recent event.

Cardiovascular medicine also has three other endowed chairs: Brian Lowes, M.D., Ph.D., the William D. Angle Presidential Chair of Cardiology; Thomas Porter, M.D., the Theodore F. Hubbard, M.D., Chair of Cardiology; and Irving Zucker, Ph.D., the Theodore F. Hubbard, M.D., Endowed Chair of Cardiovascular Research.
