International Week begins Monday

Two UNMC student groups are inviting the entire campus to a weeklong celebration of international proportions.

The International Student Association and Graduate Student Association will host International Week Dec. 4-8, with events scheduled for each day.

Highlights of the week include a diversity fair, a presentation on Colombia and a table tennis and badminton tournament. A photo contest also is being held and entries should be submitted by Dec. 7 here. To enter, submit a photo representative of your home country (landscape, architecture, famous landmark, etc.).

The full schedule of events is listed below.

  • Dec. 4: Cultural Diversity Fair, 2-3 p.m., Durham Research Center Atrium. Participants are encouraged to wear traditional attire.
  • Dec. 5: Global recognition. A map of the world will be available throughout the day in the atrium of the Durham Research Center for students to sign in recognition of their home country.
  • Dec. 6: Breaking Barriers presentation on Colombia, noon to 1 p.m., Durham Research Center, Room 1005. Learn about this South American country and sample some native foods.
  • Dec. 7: Table tennis & badminton tournament, 7 p.m., in the Center for Healthy Living. Pizza provided.
  • Dec. 8: Photo competition. The first place prize will be awarded during the International Student Association annual meeting, to be held from noon to 1 p.m. in the Durham Research Center, Room 1005. Pizza will be provided to attendees.
