UNMC faculty, staff and students have the opportunity to know their risk for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) thanks to a research study conducted in part here at the med center.
Investigators in the UNMC Division of Rheumatology are collaborating on ARA08: Strategy to Prevent the Onset of Clinically-Apparent Rheumatoid Arthritis (StopRA) (#135-16-FB). Study participants will have their blood tested for the marker anti-ccp — which can predict eventual onset of the disease.
Researchers want to know if early treatment may prevent or delay RA in high-risk individuals. Individuals identified as high risk — found to have elevated levels of anti-ccp — may be eligible to participate in further study, though that is optional. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disease where the immune system attacks the joints, leading to joint inflammation and damage, disability and many other increased risks.
