Barb Wright-Kennedy

On Thursdays, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Barb Wright-Kennedy
  • Hometown: Denver, Colo.
  • No. of years at UNMC: 36 years in August

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.

I started at UNMC in the department of pediatrics working on the infant/child car seat loan program. When the grant was not renewed, I moved to the public relations department where I stayed for about 14 years as the office manager. This job allowed me to learn a lot about the campus and meet and work with many interesting people.

I have been a workstation support tech in IT for the past 20 years. In this role, I provide IT support to the departments of family medicine, radiology and radiation oncology in the College of Medicine as well as to the department of medical imaging & therapeutic sciences (MITS) in the College of Allied Health Professions. I truly enjoy helping the faculty, staff and residents in these departments.

Innovation is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group demonstrating innovation at UNMC.

There are many new and innovative things going on around campus every day. One thing that I was able to be a small part of was the launching of the SIM-NE trucks. I was able to help the SIM-NE team finish setting up the PCs in the trucks. What a great program this is to help train personnel for Nebraska EMS agencies and rural hospitals! The next innovation coming to campus is the iEXCEL building. This is going to be a remarkable facility that will help train all the health care disciplines on campus using state-of-the-art technology. I can’t wait to see it completed.

What is your favorite spring activity?
Getting out outdoors, camping and riding my motorcycle.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I am married and have two daughters, two steps-sons and four wonderful grandchildren that I love spending time with.
  • I have been riding a motorcycle for about 10 years and recently moved up to a touring bike, which I love.
  • I love camping and am looking forward to retirement, riding our motorcycles and traveling the country in our RV.
