New e-learning teams awarded for 2018-19

UNMC’s Office of Academic Affairs held the E-Learning Awards Ceremony earlier this month, and 16 teams — with faculty and student representation from all colleges — were funded for the next cohort.

Eleven projects were selected in the open call category, and five cover topics in pharmacology. See a list of awardees.

The ceremony served to recognize and congratulate award winners, as well as prepare them for the challenging work they will complete the next few months.

“The E-Learning Program offers a unique opportunity for students and faculty to work together to create engaging e-modules that benefit the UNMC learning community and beyond,” said Peggy Moore, director of e-learning at UNMC. “The interactive component of the modules allows for teams to brainstorm new and interesting ways to illustrate difficult content, helping students visualize information and increasing the chances of it clicking and sticking.”

Since 2014, the E-Learning Program has resulted in more than 400 e-modules, most of which are available on the UNMC E-Gallery.

Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dele Davies, M.D., shared his excitement for this year’s cohort.

“The first few years of the E-Learning Program included only faculty, but adding students to the teams has accelerated the program, enhanced innovative components and spurred the use of e-learning in many other invaluable projects for our community,” Dr. Davies said. “It’s often said that we learn best by teaching, and I am looking forward to watching as this year’s teams become experts on the diverse topics their e-modules will cover.”

Modules will be completed for the E-Learning Showcase, scheduled for April 16.
