New tech designed to protect against email threats

Beginning Monday, April 22, Nebraska Medicine and UNMC will launch a new technology designed to protect us against threats that arrive in our inbox. These threats originate from malicious websites, which are triggered when users click links inside the email messages.

Emails containing these links often look legitimate, even to the discerning eye. The new technology protects you and the organization’s assets by blocking access to malicious URLs. Even with this new technology, colleagues must remain vigilant and carefully choose what links they click.

With the new technology, you may notice when hovering over a link, it will show a lengthened URL which will always begin with https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?=.

After clicking the link, if it is safe, you will be granted access. If it is malicious, you will see a notification like this in your browser:

picture disc.

This notification informs you the URL was malicious and the technology successfully protected you. If you have questions, please contact IT Helps at 402-559-7700.
