Writing Center @ UNMC in new location

As the fall semester kicks off, the Writing Center @ UNMC is now in a new home.

As a result of renovation work being done at Wittson Hall, the Writing Center is now located in the Student Services area of the Student Life Center.

The Writing Center @ UNMC, staffed by educators from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, has been on the UNMC campus since 2016. Travis Adams, Ph.D., director of the Writing Center @ UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha Writing Center, called the UNMC center a success, providing a service that previously wasn’t available at UNMC at all.

“Any writing that people are working on while at UNMC — papers, reports, articles for classes, research they want to get published, dissertations — we can help with, and really at any point in the writing process,” Dr. Adams said. “If you are brainstorming, getting organized or even sorting out how to make requested revisions, we can offer help.”

Writing Center staff personnel include consultants with at least a master’s degree in English, Dr. Adams said, and many teach writing courses at UNO.

“When I’ve talked with graduate students at UNMC over the last three years, I tell them everyone needs another set of eyes on their writing,” he said. “There is this myth that people who write and get published do it on their own — but every article you see has had editors, advisors or other people review it. And the writing center is there to fill that role for UNMC students.

“Certainly with something you’re trying to publish or with a dissertation, just having somebody else look at it can lower the stress level.”

The Writing Center @ UNMC is open from 2-7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays during the fall and spring semesters.
