HPTC healthcare resources directory available

picture disc. It’s the 10th anniversary of the Health Professions Tracking Center and the latest edition of the “Directory of Nebraska and Western Iowa Healthcare Resources” is hot off the press.

To celebrate the anniversary a 25-page special section on dental practices was added this year bringing the publication to 371 pages.

“Each year we try to do something to enhance the directory,” said Marlene Deras, HPTC operations manager. “We want it to be a useful and valuable resource.”

The HPTC directory offers a wealth of information in an easy to use format. The directory is broken down by profession and practice location and includes listings of physicians, dentists, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and members of the Nebraska Optometric Association.

“The directory also provides the same up-to-date information on pharmacies, clinics and hospitals in the area,” HPTC Director Kolene Kohll said. “We take great care in making sure we have the correct locations, fax numbers, phone numbers and UPINs for health care professionals listed in the directory.”

While largely used by hospital and clinic personnel, Deras said the directory also is a resource for medical transcriptionists and other health care personnel searching for address information or spelling accuracy.

“The most frequent feedback from people who use the HPTC directory is that it saves them so much time,” Deras said. One nurse told her that she use to take hours searching through phone books or online for doctor’s, pharmacist’s and dentist’s contact information. The HPTC directory now puts it at her fingertips.

HPTC’s mission is to be the primary source of health professions information for workforce planning, biosecurity preparedness and formulation of health policies to support recruitment and retention needs. HPTC is a valuable resource for the Nebraska’s Health Alert Network.

“State officials use HPTC data to send health alerts,” Deras said. “When 9/11 hit, HPTC data was already in place and has since become a valuable tool in our state’s homeland security initiative.”

The directories cost $70 each when purchasing five or fewer; $65 each for orders of six to 10 directories; and $60 each when ordering 11 or more. Campus shipping and handling is $4 for one directory and $1 for each additional directory.

To order, e-mail the HPTC at HPTC@unmc.edu and provide your department, contact name, telephone number, ZIP, number of directories you wish to order and your cost center number. If you would like more information, call the HPTC at (402) 559-2903.
