Retirement reception for Ricki Otten on Dec. 5

The College of UNMC Allied Health Professions will hold a retirement reception to honor Ricki Otten on Dec. 5 from 2-4 p.m. in the Linder Reading Room at the Sorrell Center. Remarks will begin at 2:30 p.m. Otten will be retiring Dec. 20 after 38 years at UNMC.

Otten graduated from UNMC with a degree in medical technology from the College of Allied Health Professions. As an instructor and coordinator of chemistry/urinalysis in the UNMC Division of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Otten has worked closely with students in the classroom, clinical settings and through the SHARING Clinics.

Since 2009, Otten worked with MLS student cohorts in the SHARING Clinics to improve laboratory processes and develop educational materials for student professionalism. Program Director Karen Honeycutt, Ph.D., said Otten’s impactful work will be missed.

“She is known for making clinical chemistry fun, engaging and interesting,” Dr. Honeycutt said. “Ricki’s work ethic has always focused on quality patient care and providing the most valuable student educational experience.”

The campus is invited to the event.
