The UNMC Department of Information Technology now is offering a machine transcription and captioning service to the academic community.
Machine transcription is the process in which speech or audio is converted by a machine into a written / text document without any associated time information.
Captioning is text which is time-coded with the video to synchronize the audio and video. The caption is typically located at the bottom of the video.
Currently, Information Technology-Academic Technologies offers two products for transcription and captioning:
- Echo360 ALP; and
- VidGrid.
UNMC’s Echo360 ALP license includes machine transcription and captioning. All colleges except College of Medicine and Graduate Studies have machine transcription and captioning enabled.
Echo360 ALP offers a fee-based human captioning service, submit a UNMC Help Desk ticket if you require the fee-based Echo360 ALP human captioning service.
UNMC’s VidGrid licenses offers only human transcription and captioning. No machine captioning is available.
VidGrid has 10,000 minutes for human (professional) transcription and captioning. The remaining balance will be first-come-first-serve, until the balance is depleted or the expiration of the license in June 2020.
VidGrid professional (human) transcription and captioning will not be utilized to transcribe or caption ANY Echo360 ALP video or audio files or capture.
