UNMC’s spring 2020 convocation and commencement ceremonies will be held virtually from May 7-9 to ensure the health and safety of campuses and communities during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
More than 1,000 students are expected to receive their diplomas from UNMC this spring.
Because they will be recorded and available for streaming, these ceremonies can be accessed on the commencement website. But graduates, family, friends and community members are encouraged to watch them “live,” and create a collective, community experience via social media. Use the hashtag #UNMCVirtualGrad to share the moment and record memories.
An email with additional information and links will be sent to graduates closer to the day of commencement.
Separate online ceremonies will be held for each of UNMC’s six academic colleges and for those earning graduate studies degrees:
- College of Dentistry: Thursday, May 7, 9:30 a.m.
- Graduate Studies: Friday, May 8, 10 a.m.
- College of Pharmacy: Friday, May 8, 2 p.m.
- College of Allied Health Professions: Friday, May 8, 3 p.m.
- College of Nursing: Saturday, May 9, 9 a.m.
- College of Medicine: Saturday, May 9, 10 a.m.
- College of Public Health: Saturday, May 9, 1 p.m.
The ceremonies will carry common elements — such as a commencement address from UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. But each also has been customized to reflect the unique culture of each college. Convocation and hooding will be included within the ceremonies when applicable. Each ceremony will conclude with the conferral of degrees.
Every graduating student will be honored individually, with the student’s name read aloud as their name, photo and degree received are displayed for the audience. Graduates are invited to “walk” in person at any future UNMC commencement.
Additional information:
- Hard copies of diplomas will be mailed to each graduating student.
- Graduates who ordered attire will receive their cap, gown and hood (as appropriate), and all attire will be theirs to keep.
- A program for May 2020 commencement and convocation ceremonies will be available digitally. Print copies will be mailed to each graduating student.
