Food service options to change at med center

At the Nebraska Medical Center, the decreased volume of people, both visitors and colleagues, has made it necessary to temporarily consolidate food service operations. As we shared recently in UNMC Today, the new Starbucks in the Durham Outpatient Center opened June 1. In addition to beverages, the location will offer hot breakfast items and hot sandwiches at lunch and will be open seven days a week.

With those offerings in place, the following changes are planned for the summer:

Now in effect:

  • The coffee cart in Storz Pavilion has new hours of 6:30 to 10 a.m., Monday through Friday
  • The coffee cart in the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center has new hours of 6:30 to 10 a.m., Monday through Friday
  • The Restaurant now offers take-out and delivery service at Nebraska Medical Center Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Beginning Wednesday, June 10:

  • Storz Cafe will close. The popular “Storz Shakes” will be offered at Hand Crafted, located inside Nebraska Cafe
  • The cafe in the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center will no longer offer breakfast, but will remain open at lunch, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday

Beginning Saturday, June 13:

  • Nebraska Cafe will close weekends. Hot breakfast and lunch items are available at the new Starbucks in the Durham Outpatient Center

“We know this is very disappointing to our staff,” said Tom Hoffman, executive director, food and nutrition. “While the visitor restrictions and remote work are very necessary, the decrease in customers has made our current situation unsustainable. Again, we hope this is simply a temporary situation and can one day resume normal operations.”
