Peter Mannon, MD, named to Center for Scientific Review study section

Peter Mannon, MD, will serve as a member of the Gastrointestinal Mucosal Pathobiology Study Section, Center for Scientific Review, for the term that began July 1 and will end on June 30, 2023. Members are selected on the basis of their demonstrated competence and achievement in their scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors. Dr. Mannon is chief of the division of gastroenterology/hepatology in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine.

ABIM announces new specialty board and exam committee members

Cyrus Desouza, MBBS, and Whitney Goldner, MD, are among those appointed by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) to its governance structure. Board governance consists of more than 350 members on more than 50 boards and committees and includes physicians, allied professionals and public members.

Dr. Goldner, professor in the UNMC Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, has been appointed to the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Board. Dr. Desouza has been appointed to the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Board Exam Committee. He is a professor and chief of the UNMC Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism.

ABIM has 12 specialty boards that are responsible for the broad definition of the discipline across certification and maintenance of certification (MOC). Specialty boards have oversight of the exam committees and are responsible for making certification and MOC relevant vehicles in their discipline. The boards are engaged in frontline work and have oversight of the exam committees. ABIM’s 20 exam committees are responsible for developing relevant, clinically valid and rigorous assessments for certification and maintenance of certification.
