  • Name: Cindy Norton
  • Title: Administrator for the UNMC Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology and the Center for Heart and Vascular Research
  • Hometown: Irvington, Nebraska

Talk about your job and what you like best about it:

Being involved in the development of the Center for Heart and Vascular Research (CHVR), which is a unique collaboration between the UNMC Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology and the Nebraska Medical Center, is an honor and a privilege.

I am excited to be working with extraordinarily talented investigators involved in research spanning not only UNMC, but across all of the NU system campuses. The UNMC Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology (CIP) is one of five basic science departments of the College of Medicine at UNMC. Our mission encompasses the traditional activities involved in teaching, research and service.

This department has maintained a major research emphasis in cardiovascular and renal physiology, and now, with the Center for Heart and Vascular Research (CHVR), facilitating the interaction between these groups is a major part of my job. Our goal is to support and empower cardiovascular research efforts in heart and vascular disease, and I am pleased to be part of this journey.

My job is to work alongside the executive and investigators in both CIP and CHVR to identify and provide the resources required to conduct groundbreaking research and human resource support. I enjoy the challenge this creates along with the changes and the opportunity to learn something new on a consistent basis.

List three things people may not know about you:

  • I have been married for 40 years and am the mother of three boys and grandmother of three boys.
  • I enjoy working out at the gym and participate in several biking events for charity. I also have completed a women’s mini triathlon.
  • I like to take on life with an attitude of “Yes, you can do that,” and then find out how to do that and do it well.
