UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, sent the following message to the UNMC community on Oct. 22:

To members of the UNMC community,

Good morning. As you learned (Thursday) from President Carter, effective July 1, I will assume the role of executive vice president and provost of the University of Nebraska system while remaining as your chancellor at UNMC. In doing so, I will step away from my role as the chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

I am excited about my new role in the University of Nebraska system, and I look forward to working with President Carter to help chart the academic path of the university. Be assured, however, that I will be fully engaged in my UNMC leadership and Nebraska Medicine Board Chair roles.

Certainly, I continue to enjoy my time as UNO chancellor and am committed to serving in this role throughout the remainder of the academic year. I am proud of the successes that UNO has had in enrollment, student outcomes, academic program development, research, private philanthropy and more. I am committed to continuing the many partnerships UNO and UNMC have developed, and look forward to working with the next UNO chancellor to further strengthen the ties between the two Omaha-based NU campuses.

With that said, I look forward to focusing my energy on the opportunities that are on the horizon at UNMC — and there are many. These include the NExT project, a truly once-in-a-generation opportunity for our state and country; incorporation of iEXCEL throughout all of our educational and training programs; advancement of our research enterprise, which recently set another record for annual support; continued creation of a truly inclusive culture; and meeting the workforce needs in our rural and urban communities, among many other initiatives.

We have much exciting work ahead of us at UNMC, and I could not be more pleased about our trajectory and our future as the state’s academic health science center. Through all of our hard work and dedication, we continue to lead the world in transforming lives to create a healthy future for all individuals and communities. I could not be prouder to come to work each day with all of you.

Thank you.

Jeffrey P. Gold, MD
Chancellor
