“Health Advocacy and Communication” will be the subject of the next Pediatric Academic Workshop Series, to be held Feb. 19-20.

The virtual event is sponsored by the Child Health Research Institute, UNMC and Children’s Hospital & Medical Center.

“We are excited to be offering the Pediatric Academic Workshop Series again this February,” said Kari Simonsen, MD, chair of the UNMC Department of Pediatrics. “This event will highlight the importance of serving as advocates for children’s health in the work we do, including scholarship, education and the care of our patients. We particularly invite members of the UNMC community with interests in child health and who consider acting as advocates for children integral to their role.”

The virtual workshop will offer interactive learning in a program that will include local and national experts. Highlights include:

  • Effectively communicating child health information with the public;
  • Advocating for children at the local, state and federal levels;
  • Data visualization;
  • Effective verbal presentation skills;
  • Enhancing communication through social media;
  • Fostering parents’ trust in an era of vaccine hesitancy;
  • Breakout sessions for active learning; and
  • Elective small group mentoring sessions with facilitators.

The workshop will be open to colleagues from neighboring institutions and the nationwide IDeA States Pediatric Clinical Trials Network.
