Employees, students must return to designated, assigned parking lots

Beginning Monday, March 15, all students, faculty, UNMC and Nebraska Medicine employees on campus must park in their designated/assigned parking lots.

For months, UNMC Parking Services accommodated colleagues and students as a result of the work from home/virtual class initiatives. Now, as it continually assesses campus parking needs and as more faculty, students and staff begin to return to campus, Parking Services can no longer allow surface parkers the ability to park in lots for which they do not have permits.

It is time for authorized parkers to return to their approved lots, said Cory Shaw, executive vice president-chief operating officer for Nebraska Medicine, and Doug Ewald, vice chancellor for business, finance and business development at UNMC.

Shaw and Ewald said they appreciated the accommodations Parking Services made earlier to loosen restrictions, but that as the medical center community begins its gradual return to campus it needs to ensure that lots have adequate parking for patients, as well as for authorized permit holders.

Parking Services will patrol lots — on and after March 15 — to ensure that motorists have returned to their assigned lots; failure to do so will result in a parking citation.

Employees returning to work on campus, who have been working off site, will be eligible for reinstatement to their previous parking assignment, subject to availability. Assigned lot will be forfeited 30 days after they return to campus.

Pending return of a shuttle, Nebraska Medicine employees who work in the East Campus Corporate Pavilion (ECCP) may temporarily park in lot eight when they visit the 42nd and Emile campus.
