More than 300 administrative professionals from across the UNMC campus were honored May 4 for their continuous dedication and hard work.

The UNMC Administrative Professional’s Day celebration featured a complimentary breakfast, lunch and motivational presentation by Heather Wright, senior analyst and consultant for The Gallup Organization. The annual event is sponsored by the UNMC Employee Growth Advocacy Development Organization (EGAD) and Human Resources. Charlene Tate of Business and Finance Services organized and hosted the event for the sixth consecutive year.

Administrative professionals — the individuals who keep UNMC’s offices running smoothly — are the backbone of the campus. They are people like Barbara Carter from accounts payable, Evelyn Grixby in human resources and Lori Cooley with the College of Nursing.

“UNMC is a wonderful place to work,” said Evelyn Grixby, who has worked in the human resource strategic staffing and compensation office for 12 years.

Grixby, who helps prospective employees fill out job applications, said she has seen the transformation of her office from a manual to electronic process. Then there were more people coming into the office to inquire about and fill out applications by hand, now most applications are done online.

While Grixby still sees plenty of customers, she has more time to take computer-training classes offered by information technologies and attend job fairs. “I love to be able to tell people about UNMC and help attract the best people to come to work here.”
