UNMC Board of Counselors welcomes new members

UNMC’s Board of Counselors elected officers for 2006 at the annual board meeting on April 24. Officers are Kathy Campbell, chairperson, Lincoln; and Bob Kully, vice chairperson, Omaha.

The group welcomed 11 new members at the meeting held at the Durham Research Center Auditorium.

New board members by hometown are:

Blair – Donna Mahlendorf, former relationship manager with Dun and Bradstreet and now civic leader;
Lincoln – E. Susan Gourley, Ed.D., superintendent of the Lincoln Public Schools;

Nebraska City – JoDee Adelung, mayor and owner of Temps, Inc.;
Omaha – Tawanna Black, executive director of Destination Midtown; Ivan Gilreath, senior vice president of group insurance products, Mutual of Omaha; Jamie Gutierrez, president and owner of Midwest Maintenance, a building service contracting company; Ted Hazer, a retired investor and former member of UNMC’s Board of Counselors; Wesley Hutcherson, director of purchasing for mechanical, informational technology and general needs, Union Pacific Railroad;
Phillips – Tammy Allen, R.N., works at Advanced Radiology in Grand Island, and currently serves as president of the Nebraska Medical Association Alliance;
Valentine – Joanne F. Shephard, president, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of First National Bank of Valentine; and
Wayne – Rod Tompkins, majority owner of Heritage Homes of Nebraska, Inc.

The UNMC Board of Counselors is a group of 61 community and business leaders from across the state who advise UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., on health care issues of importance.
