Nebraska Medical Orchestra, Choir invite new musicians

The Nebraska Medical Orchestra (NMO), a volunteer orchestra of health care-related musicians, is inviting new musicians to join the group beginning in September.

Created in August 2018 as a collaboration between UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha School of Music, the NMO’s more than 50 musicians come from UNMC, Children’s Hospital & Medical Center, Nebraska Medicine, Clarkson College, Creighton University and private practices.

The musicians represent many areas of health care including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, scientists, therapists, nutritionists, academic faculty, lab technicians, researchers, medical office staff and students across all colleges and programs.

The NMO meets Wednesdays from 7-9:30 p.m. in preparation for three-to-five performances each season.

"We welcome interest from all instrumentalists, but especially those who play strings, oboe, bassoon and horn," said Matthew Brooks, DMA, director of orchestral activities in music and medicine. "There is no cost to join, and musicians of all levels are welcome."

The Nebraska Medical Choir is a new choral ensemble opportunity expected to commence during the fall semester, with an inaugural holiday concert in early December. All interested singers should complete this interest form by Wednesday, Sept. 1.
