Families hear about COVID-19 from med center leaders, experts

Wednesday night, families of Nebraska Medicine and UNMC colleagues had the opportunity to hear from the medical center’s leaders and infectious disease experts on the current state of COVID-19 in the community and the country.

Mark Rupp, MD, medical director of infection control and epidemiology and chief of the UNMC Division of Infectious Disease, discussed the rise in cases, why vaccinations are so important, herd immunity and debunked some COVID-19 myths.

Kari Simonsen, MD, chair, UNMC Department of Pediatrics, discussed the risks children face with the current spread of COVID-19, how parents can keep them safe and when a vaccine might be available to kids under the age of 12.

Nebraska Medicine CEO Jim Linder, MD, and UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, co-hosted the forum, and expressed their gratitude for the families who support our mission.
