UNMC’s Pamela Boyers, PhD, was inducted Tuesday into the National Center for Simulation’s Modeling and Simulation Hall of Fame.

Dr. Boyers serves as associate vice chancellor of clinical simulation for iEXCEL, which enables learners to learn and practice professional clinical skills using a wide variety of simulation modalities before encountering real-life situations.

Dr. Boyers and five others were honored during an induction ceremony in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Boyers was chosen for recognition in 2020; due to the pandemic, the ceremony was delayed until this year. She was inducted along with 2021 honorees.

Established in 2014, the National Center for Simulation’s Modeling and Simulation Hall of Fame honors industry pioneers whose passion, dedication and perseverance laid the foundation for the multi-billion dollar modeling and simulation industry that now calls Central Florida home. The "Wall of Fame" is displayed in a permanent space in the South Concourse of the Orange County Convention Center in Florida.

"Through her career, Dr. Boyers has stretched the thinking of our campuses and of our faculty, staff and students alike," said UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD. "She has encouraged them to realize the tremendous positive potential that simulation and modeling have on the student experience and the learning environment."

Dr. Gold credits Dr. Boyers for her "unique ability to passionately promote and demonstrate the effectiveness of simulation."

UNMC’s advanced simulation facility, housed in the Dr. Edwin G. & Dorothy Balbach Davis Global Center, fosters the practice of patient care in highly functioning and effective interprofessional teams.

"Transformative endeavors involve partnering with the right people, conducive milieus in which to experiment — and bold, supportive leadership," Dr. Boyers said. "Therefore, I accept this honor with deep appreciation to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, for the leadership of Chancellor Jeffrey Gold and in recognition of the visionary community leaders in Nebraska as well as the iEXCEL staff — all of whom make iEXCEL and the Davis Global Center possible."

Prior to joining UNMC in 2015, Dr. Boyers served as executive director of the University of Toledo Interprofessional Immersive Simulation Center and assistant professor in the department of surgery. She also served as chief academic officer for the Center for Medical Education and Innovation at Riverside/OhioHealth, Columbus, Ohio — one of the first interprofessional simulation centers, which opened in 2005.
