High School Alliance recognized as a premiere pipeline program
The Association of Academic Medical Centers is featuring the UNMC High School Alliance on its website as an example of academic health center best practices.
The alliance is featured as one in a series of case studies on successful pipleine programs being showcased on the organization's Sullivan Alliance web page.
The AAHC Sullivan Alliance aims to strengthen the capacity and quality of the nation’s health workforce by increasing the numbers of ethnic and racial minorities in every area of health care and across all aspects of academic health centers.
Hours temporarily reduced at the C-store
Staffing constraints require Food and Nutrition Services to temporarily reduce the operating hours of the C-store, located on level three of University Tower. Beginning Saturday, Sept. 18, the revised hours will be in effect:
- Weekends 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
"We kindly ask for your patience as we work to find solutions," said Tom Hoffman, director, Food and Nutrition. "We do not anticipate the reduced hours to be in place long term."
Dunkin' closing early today, next week
Due to staffing issues, Dunkin’ will close at 3 p.m. today and each weekday next week. Management plans to resume full hours later this month once several individuals are trained.
Food trucks on campus next week
Next week, the medical center community again will be able to grab lunch from a food truck on campus.
A different food truck will be on campus from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. north of the UNMC Ice Rink. The schedule for the week of Sept. 20 is as follows:
- Monday, Sept. 20 – ZEMOGS (Mexican food)
- Tuesday, Sept. 21 – Burning Bridges (burgers, sandwiches, chicken)
- Wednesday, Sept. 22 – No vendor
- Thursday, Sept. 23 – ZEMOGS
- Friday, Sept. 24 – Street Eats (burgers, wraps and salads)
Food trucks (and menus) are subject to change.
Retirements announced
Christie Campbell-Grossman, PhD, an associate professor in the UNMC College of Nursing-Lincoln Division, retired in August after nearly 38 years at UNMC.
Dr. Grossman was the longest-tenured retiree in August, but Thomas Tape, MD, retired in September after 35 years at the medical center. Other retirements announced by human resources in September include:
- Debra Mostek, MD, UNMC College of Medicine, retired on Aug. 3 (start date Aug. 10, 1992)
- Mary Froeschle, DDS, UNMC College of Dentistry, scheduled to retired Nov. 2 (start date Dec. 6, 1993)
- Jayme Nekuda, PhD, assistant vice chancellor of human resources, retired Aug. 10 (start date Aug. 5, 1996)
- Tricia LeVan, PhD, UNMC College of Public Health, retired Aug. 21 (start date April 17, 2006)
- Lana Reichardt, UNMC College of Medicine, retired Aug. 24 (start date April 2, 2007)
