Great Plains IDeA-CTR offers funding, training opportunities

The Great Plains IDeA-CTR, a collaborative effort between eight partner institutions across Nebraska with links to institutions in North Dakota, South Dakota and Kansas, has announced several funding and training opportunities open to the medical center community.

These pilot, early-career awards and training opportunities for 2022-23 are available to full-time faculty at University of Nebraska institutions, Creighton University, Children’s Hospital & Medical Center, Boys Town National Research Hospital and Omaha VA Medical Center:

  • Research scholar program ($25,000 per year plus .5 FTE protected time for research);
  • Team development pilot ($25,000 for one year to support new team collaborations);
  • Team research pilot ($50,000 for one year to support existing clinical and translational research teams or projects);
  • Tech transfer pilot ($50,000 for one year to support translation of intellectual property);
  • Heart and vascular pilot ($50,000 for one year through the Center for Heart and Vascular Research, UNMC or University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty only).
  • Research Incubator designed to assist community-engaged scientists and their partners in the generation of competitive community-engaged research NIH grant proposals.

Headquartered out of UNMC’s Department of Neurological Sciences and led by professor and chair Matthew Rizzo, MD, the Great Plains IDeA-CTR is part of a five-year research grant from the National Institutes of Health totaling over $20 million. Its focus is developing early career researchers into independent scientists and increasing the infrastructure and other resources needed to support clinical and translational research (CTR) around the region.
