UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, will be the focus of a one-hour biographical documentary on RFD-TV this weekend.
Dr. Gold is being featured on the RFD program "The Rural Americans," which will air Sunday Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. Central time.
The program traces Dr. Gold’s life and 50-year career, from his boyhood through his journey to become a world-renowned heart surgeon and chancellor of UNMC, which he has helped make one of the most influential academic medical institutions in the world. The program will discuss how the rapid advancements in research and trailblazing technology at UNMC under his leadership are building the future of medicine.
In a wide-ranging interview, Dr. Gold discusses the influence of his parents, how an illness in the family inspired him to seek out a medical career and its impact on his interest in increasing access to health care and eliminating health disparities.
Dr. Gold also discusses his experiences as a heart surgeon, his decision to move into academic medicine and his work at UNMC.
"The Rural Americans" is a documentary series chronicling the life stories of men and women who "transformed their lives from humble beginnings in small town USA" to become influential changemakers. Previous shows have featured Sen. Bob Kerrey, Mike Yanney and Joe Ricketts.
