Presentation will detail phishing scenarios

It can be surprisingly easy to be lured into falling for a phishing attempt.

Members of the medical center community can learn about phishing tactics and how to "Squish the Phish" at an information security event at 11 a.m. on Oct. 12.

Cheryl O’Dell, senior IT security engineer at Enterprise Information Security, will lead the audience through a group of scenarios and ask audience members "What would you do?"

This informational and interactive 45-minute presentation will cover recent information security social engineering tricks employees have faced, and general incident response reporting. Anyone who is an employee of the University of Nebraska system or Nebraska Medicine are invited to join the Zoom meeting.

This is the first of a series of Zoom presentations that will be conducted in October as part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The UNMC and Nebraska Medicine Information Security team will be partnering with the University of Nebraska Information Security team to provide presentations, tips and a "Write your own phishing email" contest for prizes. The details for the contest and the events can be found here.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure every American has the resources they need to stay safe and secure online while increasing the resilience of the nation against cyber threats. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the National Cyber Security Alliance co-lead Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
