Cybersecurity is a growing concern in both the business, educational and personal arenas. It also is one of the medical center's first considerations when creating or buying new devices and connected services.
As part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October, the med center's Information Security team is hosting multiple Zoom presentations throughout the month.
11 a.m., Oct. 19, Phishing, SPAM/SCAM
Log in and hear about the latest email social engineering tricks that hackers and thieves are trying to trick employees with daily. Renee Myers and Matt Reida, information security professionals from Nebraska Medicine, will be discussing general email compromise awareness and how all members of the University of Nebraska system and Nebraska Medicine should be utilizing the "report phish" button. Join in for this 45-minute presentation on Zoom. All non-IT professionals attending this presentation will be entered into a drawing for prizes.
1-3 p.m., Oct. 19, Capture the Flag (only for IT professionals)
This IT professional-only event will focus on using the Elastic interface for searching logs to figure out the answers to specific details of an event. This is for all levels of Elastic users, from beginner to expert. We ask that this event be limited to IT professionals because of the popularity of the event. All IT professionals who attend the event will be entered into a drawing for prizes. (Note: the Zoom info for this will be sent via email through the IT/IT Partner email distribution groups.)
Noon, Oct. 21, FBI Report: cybercrime
Join FBI Special Agent Jake Foiles as he presents the latest information regarding cybercrime from the Omaha FBI office. This presentation will not be recorded, so get some lunch and join the Zoom meeting for this 45-minute informative and interesting presentation.
For students: Oct. 26, Social Engineering: Vishing, tuition scams
This informative presentation is designed for the students of the University of Nebraska and will be made available as a recorded presentation. Today's students are used to learning from anywhere at any time. This presentation will focus on the social engineering tricks that often are used to target students. Specifically, students will learn about vishing and the tuition scam and job opportunity scam emails from Robby Debevoise, information security professional from the University of Nebraska, and Jill Lenz, information security professional from Nebraska Medicine. This is a must see for all University of Nebraska students. All students completing the recorded presentation will be entered into a prize drawing.
