Submissions sought for medical humanities magazine

The Gold Humanism Honor Society in the UNMC College of Medicine is creating a medical humanities-themed magazine, the Art of Medicine. The magazine will serve as a place for health care workers to showcase art in the form of writing, artwork and photography.

Submissions of fiction, non-fiction, poems, sketches, cartoons, photography and drawings are being accepted from all UNMC faculty, staff and students. Email submissions to the Art of Medicine by Feb. 1.

When submitting, please remove all identifying information. Writings containing identifying information will not be accepted. Also note the following parameters when submitting your work:

  • Fiction and non-fiction: No more than 2,500 words. Please submit your writing as a .docx.
  • Poetry: No more than 500 words. Please submit your poem as a .docx.
  • Artwork and photography: Please limit size to 10 MB. Please include your file as a .jpg, .jpeg, .gif or .png.

Submissions will be peer reviewed, and publication will be available online and in limited print on April 15. If you have questions, e-mail Thomas Schroeder in the college of medicine.

If you are not ready to publish but would like the chance to work on your writing or doodles, stop into the GHHS Writing Club Fridays from noon to 1 p.m. on Zoom or the biweekly Doodle club. E-mail Keely Reidelberger for more details.
