Million-step Monday – A third of the way there but still time to start

UNMC is now about four months into the yearlong 1 Million Step Challenge — that said — there’s still time to get started.

While more than 750 people initially registered for the challenge, there are still many employees who haven’t.

And though many current participants have already achieved or are close to achieving the 1 million-step milestone, Jayme Nekuda of the Center for Healthy Living emphasized that the challenge is not a race but rather a fun way to help people increase their activity levels.

“To any of those people who want to participate but haven’t yet, I say grab a pedometer and start walking,” Nekuda said. “We still have a long way to go.”

And as has been proven by several current participants, achieving 1 million steps is a realistic and fun endeavor, Nekuda said.

Contact Nekuda at 559-8448 or jnekuda@unmc.edu to register and to purchase a pedometer and challenge log book.
The cost to purchase a pedometer and logbook is $9. Pedometers can be purchased and picked up at the CFHL or routed through campus mail. If an employee already has a pedometer, the logbook is free.

The following is a list of UNMC employees who have recently reached one of the 250,000-step markers in the 1 Million Step Challenge. Send an e-mail to today@unmc.edu with your name, department and tell us what step milestone you reached and we’ll post it on the list.
