UNMC’s hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center, and UNMC Physicians have reached new agreements with UnitedHealthcare and its organ-transplant affiliate, United Resource Networks.

The new agreements mean that all UnitedHealthcare customers will continue to have uninterrupted network access to affordable, quality health care services from The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC Physicians.

“We worked diligently through two years of negotiations to reach an acceptable contract,” said Glenn Fosdick, president and CEO of The Nebraska Medical Center and Cory Shaw, chief administrative officer of UNMC Physicians, in a joint statement. “Our number one goal was to avoid disruption and any complication for our patients. The collaboration between medical staff, UNMC Physicians and the hospital was critical to ensure that this goal could be achieved.”

The new multi-year agreements cover all commercial, Medicare, Medicaid and transplant contracts and ensure continuity of care for all of medical center patients.

“We look forward to continuing our collaboration with UnitedHealthcare and bringing our extraordinary care to more members of our community,” said Steve Smith, M.D., chief medical officer at The Nebraska Medical Center. “The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC Physicians are committed to excellence. Our agreement with United Healthcare is an important part of that commitment.”

Officials from both The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC Physicians said they were pleased that the new agreement would enable patients to continue to have access to the unique services offered at the medical center and by UNMC Physicians.
