Townhall meetings to discuss new student information systems

Townhall meetings for faculty and staff concerning a new student information system being selected and implemented by the University of Nebraska will be held on Tuesday.

The project, called Nebraska University Student Information System (NUSIS), is aimed at creating a uniform student information system that will be used on all four University of Nebraska campuses.

A session for administrative staff will take place at 12:30 p.m. in the University Tower Amphitheater (Room 4208) followed by a session for students and faculty at 2 p.m. in the same room.

The university plans to chose and implement a new system, which will help manage registration, financial aid, admissions, grades and recruiting.

The project, called Nebraska University Student Information System (NUSIS), is aimed at creating a uniform student information system that will be used on all four University of Nebraska campuses. Currently campuses in Lincoln, Kearney and Omaha run off one system — which is quickly becoming outdated — while UNMC uses its own system.

“I would like to formally announce the start of the NUSIS Project (Nebraska University Student Information System), and encourage the support of the entire UNMC campus,” said UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D. “You will be hearing a lot more about this effort in the coming weeks and months.

“I invite you to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about this important initiative and provide input into the process.”

Tuesday’s hour-long sessions will provide an overview of the NUSIS Project and UNMC and university plans for the next several months. Session participants will have an opportunity for questions and answers.

A project Web site, www.collegiateproject.com/nebraska, has been established with the university’s consulting partners to keep employees updated on the project’s status.

Employees are urged to visit the Web site often to keep up with the project.
