Music as Medicine to feature holiday tunes from Burke ensemble

Sounds of the holidays will fill the Durham Outpatient Center atrium Thursday when the Burke High School ensemble performs.

The free holiday concert, which runs from noon to 1 p.m., is part of the popular Music as Medicine series.

“The spirit of the holidays will be reflected by these young voices, and we’ll each go away happier,” said John Benson, M.D., professor of internal medicine.

The Burke Ensemble is an auditioned group, drawn from the entire student body at Burke High School.

Ensemble members sing styles of music ranging from classical to Broadway and jazz.

During the holiday season, the ensemble performs for church groups, clubs and assisted living homes, doing as many as 15 performances within the month of December.

Everyone is encouraged to bring their own lunch and enjoy the uplifting holiday music. This concert is sponsored by UNMC Physicians.

The next Music as Medicine concert will be on Jan. 17 and will feature music from the Omaha Chamber Music Society.
