Marathoner Greg McFadden logged 549,213 steps in December to become the first repeat winner of the Gold Shoe award.

The Silver Shoe, meanwhile, seems to have found a permanent home in Julie Carstens’ office at the Munroe-Meyer Institute. Carstens, who has won the Silver Shoe each of the three months the contest has been held, logged an impressive 517,687 steps in December.

Carstens’ prodigious stepping earned her same face time on Omaha television station KETV Channel 7 on Wednesday night. She and the Silver Shoe were prominently featured during a feature about the 1 Million Step Challenge. Click here to see the story.

Congratulations to the winners and all others who participated in this month’s competition.

Those looking to give McFadden and Carstens competition for the January Gold and Silver Shoe awards should submit their monthly step totals to today@unmc.edu by Monday, Feb. 4. The next Gold and Silver Shoe winners will be announced on Monday, Feb. 11.
