New SARH officers announced

New officers have been elected for 2007-08 by the UNMC Student Association for Rural Health (SARH).

SARH promotes interest in health careers in rural areas of Nebraska by hosting monthly seminars on rural health issues. All UNMC students are eligible to join the SARH group.
The 2007-2008 officers and their hometowns are:

President Adam Wells, second-year medical student, St. Paul, Neb.

Wells graduated from St. Paul Public High School and Chadron State College. He joined SARH because grew up in a small town and would like to increase access and quality of health care in rural areas. He is the son of Deb and Roger Wells of St. Paul.

Vice President Nathan Krug, second-year medical student, Chapman, Neb.

Krug graduated from Nebraska Christian School and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He joined SARH because the experience of growing up on a farm helped him realize at a young age the health care issues facing rural Nebraska. He hopes to practice medicine in a rural community after graduation. He is the son of Sue and Norm Krug of Chapman.

Secretary Lindsey Mosel, second-year medical student, Geneva, Neb.

Mosel graduated from Fillmore Central High School and Wayne State College. She joined SARH because it is a great place to learn about the issues she will face as a practitioner in rural Nebraska and she hopes to encourage fellow students to join her. Mosel is the daughter of Mary and Scott Stockwell of Mitchell, Neb.

Treasurer Amy Beethe, second-year medical student, Tecumseh, Neb.

Beethe graduated from Nemaha Valley High School and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is interested rural health because she grew up in a small town and really enjoys the people who live there. She is the daughter of Kristy and Chuck Ebeler of Tecumseh, Neb.

Physical Therapy Representative Sarah Halsey, second-year physical therapy student, Wheatland, Wyo.

Halsey graduated from Wheatland High School and Chadron State College. She joined SARH because she wants to learn more about rural health issues as well as promote rural practice to her fellow students. She is the daughter of Lisa and Dave Halsey of Wheatland, Wyo.

Physician Assistant Representative Susan Buchanan, first-year physician assistant student, Crete/Milford, Neb.

Buchanan graduated from Crete High School and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She joined SARH because she wants to educate others about the possibilities that exist in rural health care and to try and get fellow practioners excited about developing long lasting relationships with their patients in order to provide the highest quality of care possible to those in underserved areas. She is the daughter of Jan and Rick Buchanan of Milford.
