The University Hospital Auxiliary is proud to announce that proceeds from Kaleidoscope 2008 “You Won’t Believe Your Eyes” event on Saturday will raise funds for the UNMC Weigel Williamson Center for Visual Rehabilitation.

Kaleidoscope is an annual philanthropic event organized by the University Hospital Auxiliary. The event, which will be at the Qwest Center Omaha, starts at 6 p.m. with a silent auction and a dinner following at 8 p.m.

Vision loss not only affects what people can see, it affects every aspect of their lives including their ability to remain independent. Vision rehabilitation trains such people to maintain function, address fears and reduce depression and dependence.

The Weigel Williamson Center will enable UNMC to meet the needs of this growing population. It will become the only nonprofit provider of comprehensive low vision rehabilitation services in Nebraska, South Dakota and western Iowa.

Donations during the Kaleidoscope event will help patients and their families experience a unique house setting that implements low vision environmental adaptations to demonstrate how a home can easily be adapted to meet low vision needs.

Funds raised during the event also will help provide rehabilitation services for those living with visual impairments.

The event co-chairs are Chris Shaw and Carol Lackner and tickets can be purchased by calling Jackie O’Dell at 559-5390.
