Reduce, reuse, recycle.

It’s a mantra many people adhere to in an effort to help protect the environment.

UNMC, UNMC Physicians and The Nebraska Medical Center would like to show employees more ways to reduce, reuse and recycle.

In recognition of Earth Day (April 22), the medical center will be hosting the Mobile Environmental Education Trailer (MEET) on campus the week of April 14.

The 53-foot-long semi-trailer features helpful information about solid waste management, recycling, resource conservation and pollution prevention presented by the Mobile Environmental Education Center mascot J.J.

J.J. is a 13-year-old raccoon, who appears in six short animated films guiding visitors through the trailer.

Other attractions include 16 individual display panels, a 20-foot conveyor line that takes items out of a trash can and drops them into a recycling bin, and original artwork created by Artisan Creed of Lincoln.

“The design and goal of the trailer is to educate Nebraskans about the importance of environmental stewardship,” said Jared Berry, operations manager of Environmental Services at UNMC and member of the campus recycling team.

The trailer is managed by Midland Recycling, the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, WasteCap Nebraska and Artisan Creed.
