The new UNMC Employee Benefits and Work-Life Programs Division has been created as part of a restructuring in the medical center’s business and finance and human resources operations.

The new division is part of UNMC’s Human Resources and comprises the Center for Healthy Living (CFHL), the Child Development Center and the UNMC Benefits Office, which had previously been part of business and finance.

“This places wellness and benefits under a single umbrella, providing for improved integration between these important functions while at the same time elevating the concept of work-life balance as a major activity within human resources,” said John Russell, assistant vice chancellor for human resources.

Jayme Nekuda, UNMC Wellness Director and director of the Center for Healthy Living, has been named director of the new division.

“Jayme Nekuda was a natural selection to head this new division,” Russell said. “Her work to promote wellness on this campus has been outstanding and this new position will allow her a broader platform to improve the medical center’s wellness picture.”

As part of the restructuring, the UNMC Payroll Office, which was part of human resources, will now be part of business and finance.

The restructuring is an efficiency move, said Deb Thomas, assistant vice chancellor for business and finance.

“All benefits, including wellness, should be a part of human resources and the payroll office, which is a part of SAP, belongs in finance,” Thomas said.

No day-to-day changes will occur in the functions of any of the effected services and UNMC employees should not notice any change in the services they receive or in how they access them, Russell said.

“This change should be completely transparent,” Thomas said.
