2008-2009 HPTC directories now available

The 2008-2009 version of the Directory of Nebraska and Western Iowa Healthcare Resources is now available.

The directory is an easy-to-use resource filled with valuable health care information. It is broken down by profession and practice location and includes listings of physicians, dentists, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, practice locations, hospitals and pharmacies.

The directory also includes information for assisted living facilities and nursing homes. The “Suppliers and Services” section includes information on medical alarms, medical billing services, medical equipment, supplies and more. The directory also includes National Provider Identifier (NPI) numbers for physicians.

The directories costs $75 when purchasing 9 or fewer, $70 each for orders of 10 or more. Campus shipping and handling is $4 for one directory and $1 for each additional directory.

Directories can now be purchased online through the UNMC Bookstore. For more information, please contact the Bookstore at 559-4455 or Jean Beda of the College of Public Health at 559-4960.

This year’s directory was produced by the Health Professions Tracking Center (HPTC), which recently shifted its functions to departments and sections within the College of Public Health, according to interim dean Keith Mueller, Ph.D.

The duties have been shifted to take advantage of the college’s capabilities in data collection and analysis, Dr. Mueller said.

The HPTC as an independent center and the positions previously assigned to the group have been eliminated, he said.

The database development, management and reporting functions previously conducted by HPTC personnel will be the responsibility of the information technology (IT) unit of the college and analytical activities, presentations and publications will be the responsibility of the college’s Nebraska Health Information Project.

The college will continue to carry out the HPTC’s role of being a comprehensive source of health-professions information, Dr. Mueller said. The level of high quality service to Nebraska and western Iowa will not only be maintained, he said, but analyzed and built upon.

For the time being, Dr. Mueller said those seeking information previously provided by the HPTC should contact the College of Public Health’s Dean’s Office at 559-4960.
