Installation of student information system progresses rapidly

Installation of a new student information system for the University of Nebraska and Nebraska’s three state colleges is underway.

At UNMC, a campus team is looking at the various technical and functional issues that need to be addressed to make the new system work at the medical center.

“This project has tremendous support from the highest levels of the university system and it is moving at a rapid pace.”

In September, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved the use of the Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions application for the new system. When operational, the system will store student information for students in the university and state college systems.

“The implementation of the system is moving along smoothly at UNMC,” said Cheryl Thompson, Ph.D., associate professor in the College of Nursing who leads the implementation team at UNMC. “This project has tremendous support from the highest levels of the university system and it is moving at a rapid pace.”

Limited use of the system on the UNMC campus should begin during the fall and the system should be fully operational by the fall of 2010, Dr. Thompson said.

As implementation progresses, Dr. Thompson said her team may call on all UNMC departments and programs to provide information and resources necessary for implementation. The campus community can be of great assistance by promptly responding to such requests.

“Given the rapid pace of implementation and the emphasis being placed on this project by university officials, it’s imperative that the campus community assists us as we move forward,” Dr. Thompson said. “We apologize in advance for demanding a short turnaround on requests but the nature of this project calls for that.”

Aside from Dr. Thompson, other members of the UNMC implementation team and their responsibilities are:

  • Jeanne Ferbrache — co-lead for UNMC campus;
  • Judy Walker — student services;
  • Crystal Quarterio — student financial aid;
  • Joan Hill — student financials;
  • Janet McLaughlin — student records;
  • Tymaree Tonjes — admissions;
  • Lee Trant — technical lead;
  • Mary Will — technical; and
  • Khiem Tran — technical.
