Wellness Wednesday — the wellness and preventative services benefit

Each UNMC employee with Blue Cross and Blue Shield coverage through UNMC (spouse and dependents if family coverage option is chosen) has a $250 “Wellness and Preventative Services” benefit annually.

The benefit can be used to cover preventative care such as annual physicals, shingles vaccinations and other vaccinations and preventive screenings.

This is an annual benefit that pays a maximum of $250 per calendar year.

If the cost of the preventative service exceeds $250, employees will be responsible to pay this out-of-pocket expense and it will not be applied toward the deductible/stop loss unless there is a resulting diagnosis.

If that is the case, this visit is no longer considered a “Healthy U Physical” and instead is considered a regular office visit that is subject to the deductible and co-insurance.

Wellness & Preventative Services benefit

  • The Wellness and Preventative Services benefit of $250 is available to all UNMC employees and their covered dependents who are enrolled in our Blue Cross Blue Shield medical plan, regardless of where their physician practices.
  • If you schedule your annual “Healthy U Physical” with a UNMC physician (family practice, internal medicine, pediatrician,or obstetrician/gynecologist – visit http://www.unmcphysicians.com/v2/ to find a UNMC Physician) the cost of an annual physical with certain labs has been worked out not to exceed $250.
  • If additional tests are conducted then the amount above $250 will be an out-of-pocket expense and not applied toward your deductible.

Well-Child Care benefit

  • Children age one and under are covered at 100 percent, not to exceed $500 per calendar year;
  • Children age two and over are covered at 100 percent not to exceed $250 per calendar year; and
  • Children under the age of six are covered at 100 percent for all immunizations per calendar year.

Mammography

  • Routine mammography screenings are covered at 100 percent (this is in addition to the $250 Wellness and Preventative Services benefit).
