Wellness Wednesday – Final call for cycling challenge — DAY CORRECTED

picture disc.A final reminder for all the cyclists, the medical center needs your pedal power to win back the Corporate Cycling Challenge title on Sunday.

Participants may choose to ride:

  • The Olde River Ride (10 miles), which starts at 9 a.m.;
  • The Riverside Ride (25 miles), which starts at 8:30 a.m.; or
  • Tour De Fort (42 miles), which starts at 8 a.m.

For the runners

Medical center runners are called to participate in the Omaha Corporate Cup Run on Sunday, Sept. 20. The run starts at 8:15 a.m. outside the Omaha Civic Auditorium, 1804 Capitol Ave. The Corporate Cup run supports the fight against lung disease. Participants may choose to:

  • Walk or run a two-mile noncompetitive course;
  • Run a two-mile TAC certified competitive course; or
  • Run a 10-kilometer TAC certified competitive course.

There also is a kids’ 100-yard dash that will begin on Chicago Street north of the Civic Auditorium at approximately 10 a.m. Runners are encouraged to register online. For more information, contact Rick Pruch at 559-8422 or rpruch@unmc.edu.

All tours begin and end at Omaha’s Heartland of America Park at 8th and Farnam streets.

The winner in each corporate division of the challenge is based on the number of total employee miles ridden. Like last year, miles logged by employee family members count half toward the organization’s total.

Last year, Union Pacific riders logged 7,898 points to win the title. Medical center cyclists were credited for 6,903 points to take second place. The medical center had won the title the previous year.

A free picnic for medical center cyclists will follow at Miller’s Landing on the Missouri River just north of the finish line.
