Week one was good for our panelists and for the Cornhuskers.

With the Huskers’ 49-3 throttling of Florida Atlantic, they move to 1-0 on the year, as do our panelists who all called for Nebraska victories.

For those who have just joined us, our panel is composed of two former Huskers — Jeff Hill, M.D., associate dean for admissions and student affairs in the College of Medicine, and Rob Zatechka, M.D., an instructor in the department of anesthesiology — and one Husker Superfan, Lisa Runco, an administrator for internal medicine chairman Lynell Klassen, M.D.

Runco is joined in making her picks each week by former Husker defensive end Chad Kelsay.

This Saturday, the Arkansas State Red Wolves, who — like Florida Atlantic — hail from the Sun Belt Conference, venture into Memorial Stadium to take on the Huskers. Below our panelists, weigh in on the game.

Dr. Hill says, “This is another tuneup game before the big test at Virginia Tech the following week. There will be no big surprises — this will be an easy victory.” NU 45, Arkansas State 7

Team Runco-Kelsay says, “Arkansas State blasted Mississippi Valley State last week, but we’re not sure if that is a measuring stick at all. It appears they’ve got a nice offense for the Sun Belt conference, but we saw what a nice Sun Belt conference offense could do last week. We’d like to think (Nebraska coach) Bo Pelini will have the guys playing better each week, so we’re hoping to see some improvement in areas such as pass rush and reduced penalties. All in all, it probably will be a boring game with plenty of opportunities for mop up duty for our younger gents.” NU 41, Arkansas State 13

Dr. Zatechka says, “Given Arkansas State’s pedigree over the last few seasons (upset win at Texas A&M, close calls with powerhouses Alabama and LSU), don’t expect them to be intimidated by the atmosphere in Lincoln. Nebraska is, however, too deep and well coached. The offensive line will be improved and the defense will continue to keep opponents out of the end zone. Nebraska wins going away with most of the damage coming in the second half.” NU 36, Arkansas State 14
