‘Lucky’ UNMC to be featured on the big screen

A film crew, movie stars and even some fake snow could be found at UNMC on Thursday as the makers of the independent movie, “Lucky,” shot scenes on the east end of the campus.

Scenes for the movie, which stars Colin Hanks — son of actor Tom Hanks — and Ann-Margret, have been shot in about 30 sites in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area.

A section of 40th Street between Farnam and Dewey streets was closed and fake snow was laid out to facilitate Thursday’s shoot.

Lucky is a dark comedy in which a wannabe serial killer — Hanks’ character — wins the lottery and then pursues his high school sweetheart.

The Council Bluffs Daily Nonpariel newspaper — which was a filming site for the movie — ran a feature story about the film in Thursday’s edition.

Plans call for the film to be complete by February and then be viewed at movie festivals.
