Friday Husker Pick’em – Iowa State

Iowa State fan Rick Blum of the UNMC ob/gyn department is our second guest panelist of the 2009 Husker football season.
The Cornhuskers, our panelists and Nebraska fans the world over took one on the chin last weekend as Texas Tech humbled NU and left Lincoln with a 31-10 win.

All three of our panelists called for Huskers wins, which leaves their records as such:

  • Jeff Hill, M.D., 5-1
  • Team Runco/Kelsay, 4-2
  • Rob Zatechka, M.D., 4-2

The Huskers look to rebound Saturday as they host the Iowa State Cyclones.

We have another guest panelist this week — Rick Blum, an administrator in the UNMC ob/gyn department and 1983 Iowa State graduate.

The Cyclones’ win over Baylor last week combined with Huskers’ loss point toward a good game playing out in Lincoln on Saturday, he said.

Below, Blum and our other panelist comment on this week’s game.

Blum says, “The clones will have a tough time with ‘Dominant’ Suh and I don’t think it matters too much which Nebraska quarterback plays. The bottom line for me as a Cyclone fan is that we are competitive in our first year with Paul Rhoads as coach as he tries to undo the damage caused by ‘He Who Cannot Be Named (former Iowa State Coach Gene Chizik).’ NU should win but I think the game will be entertaining.” NU 34, Iowa State 21

Dr. Hill says, “My prediction was not bad last week, I just had the wrong team! I think Cody Green should get a good look at quarterback for NU and I suspect the team will play hard.” NU 31, Iowa State 14

Team Runco/Kelsay says, “Last week was ugly. We expect NU to rebound against ISU, who will probably come in to Lincoln thinking they have a chance. NU better be ready for a battle and not think that this is a ‘gimme.'” NU 24, Iowa State 13

Dr. Zatechka says, “The big question this week will be how NU’s offense rebounds from last week’s debacle. I don’t think Iowa State has enough firepower on either side to be the threat that Texas Tech was but they are well coached, play hard and have a record of being disruptive to opponents’ offenses. Look for NU to push the running game and for Cody Green to start. On defense, look for more of the usual.” NU 35, Iowa State 17
