The UNMC College of Nursing Kearney Division hosted an open house Oct. 26, in an effort to provide information to those interested in pursuing a degree in nursing or learning more about the field of nursing. About 80 attended the event in the college’s West Center building on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus.

The open house was targeted toward high school students, pre-nursing students, and nurses interested in bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Faculty, staff and students were available to talk about UNMC’s programs.

Not only can nurses impact on peoples’ lives, she said there are many benefits in a nursing career including job flexibility, good pay, bonuses and loan repayment, job security and a personal sense of fulfillment.

Nurses are in high demand, as the nursing shortage is forecasted to last at least through 2010, she said.
