Jose Villegas receives Heartland Latino Leadership Health award

UNMC’s Jose Villegas recently received the 2009 Health award from the Heartland Latino Leadership Conference.

Villegas, a clinical study specialist in the Center for Reducing Health Disparities in UNMC’s College of Public Health, was recognized for his outstanding contributions to Omaha’s Latino community.

In 2009, he spearheaded the south Omaha health fair as part of the South Omaha Community Care Council’s annual Bi-National Health Week. The health fair provided critical screenings to nearly 800 people, the largest turnout in the fair’s history.

In addition, Villegas was honored for his long-standing dedication to reduce health disparities through his work in UNMC’s south Omaha office.

The Heartland Latino Leadership Conference is the largest Latino leadership forum in the Midwest. It provides a forum for businesses, professionals and community activists to gain information, network and support efforts to improve the quality of life in the Latino community.
